Struggling to change your Child’s negative behaviour? You're not alone.
Often (OK sometimes – or fill in blank to your specific situation?) Kids can be stubborn and struggle against any attempts to control their behaviour.
They just seem to ‘mis-match’ you all the time! 😮
But teaching your child to be positive, healthy, and experience effective behaviours is an important part of parenting. They might not appreciate your efforts now, but they will when they get older.
Changing your Child’s behaviour requires a plan.
So, why don’t you try these 3 strategies:
1. Emotional drama isn't necessary.
Yelling and high levels of emotion are rarely effective. Your Child is only fuelled to be more resistant when you get reactive. Some actually enjoy the fact that you're emotionally charged.
So, Stay CALM.
Annette's TOP TIP:If you can pre-empt the emotion/behaviour before it bubbles over, is another good strategy for being in front of potential hot-spots and flash-points.
2. Focus on what your child loves to do.
Electronic gadgets are popular - Phones, Tablets, TV, laptops, video games, and portable music players. Perhaps your child enjoys sports or fashion etc.? What privilege would serve as an effective deterrent for your Child if they had to do without it?
Human behaviour is ancient/instinctive (although relatively predictable), even though we live in the ‘Modern-World’
3. Rewards and punishments are Child specific.
Each Child is a unique individual. One Child might live for video games, while another is disinterested. A Mobile phone seems to be the most important thing in the world to some Children, but not others. There isn't a master list of rewards and punishments. Your creativity/individuality is key.
How you approach these tips ultimately depends on the type of relationship you have with your Child?
